CHARACTER NAME: Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing
CHARACTER AGE: 22
SERIES: Hellsing
CHRONOLOGY: After Integra has given Alucard the order to go Level:Zero.
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Housed randomly, don't mind if she has roommates. Always fun everywhere.
BACKGROUND:
Heiress to the throne:
From her birth, Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing was born a heiress to the Hellsing Organization which dealt with the extermination of supernatural creatures that threaten England and humanity. Being born into nobility made for a lonely childhood, especially when knowing the horrors that tried to endlessly conquer the night was this families prerogative.
Her time was spent training to kill and how to strategize an entire army- hardly things normal children would ever have to worry about.
Integra lacked a maternal guardian as a child, her mother died before she could remember. In her stead, she had a father and a very loyal butler (a loyal servant to the Hellsing family) who cared for her. The child passed the very early years of her life following under her butler's shadow for company and that of her father, who unfortunately took ill before her teen years. At the age of twelve, Integra experienced her first lost after her father lost the battle with his illness. This was her first example of just how wicked the world she had been born into could be.
Before her father's death, Integra wasn't entirely sheltered. Her training to become a vampire slayer had begun from a young age, but with her father as the head of the family there had been no reason to push her. She still believed that she needed to be perfect in all her lessons. Her father's dying words had been a warning to her that if she ever needed help she was to go to the basement of their manor. The same day her father died her only family left; an uncle, tried to assassinate her in her own home. His reason was simply out of anger that she had inherited the organization and he had not. Heeding her father's words, she fled to the basement where she found Hellsing's darkest secret and the worlds most horrible weapon: the vampire Alucard.
Unfortunately for the girl, when she first found him he was nothing more than a dried up corpse locked away in a dirty old chamber of her manors basement. Back then she had never been told that the best vampire slayer was a vampire himself and it came to be that he was also her inheritance. He was a man who turned into a monster by the devil himself had been captured and sealed forever to serve the Hellsing blood line. When her uncle arrived he shot her in the arm, the bullet just grazing her. Her blood spilt onto the dried up corpse and was ultimately what caused Alucard to awaken. Her uncle's betrayal had taught her that even when one was at their lowest, there was no room for weakness because there would always be someone out there ready to pounce upon the weak. In this case, her uncle had underestimated her. Even as a child, Integra Hellsing had the resolve and will to fight of any soldier on a battle field. Even when the odds were against her and there was nothing but a corpse in that chamber, she had been determined that this here would not be her tomb. Fiery and passionate, these traits followed her onto adulthood and her strength of soul was inherently what caused the vampire Alucard to accept her as his master. That day she raised her gun against her own blood and eliminated the threatened her life without remorse. It was her declaration for survival, a promise to herself that she would never stop the fight for her life, no matter what the price would be.
The Iron Maiden
After her father's death and the demise of her traitorous uncle, Integra set herself to take the reigns of the organization her bloodline had sworn to uphold. She was knighted not long afterwards and she ruled without mercy to her peoples enemy and without fear. She believes strongly in the work she does with patriotic certainty. She took the lives of those that worked under her command seriously. She believed that any man or woman (although she seems to be surrounded more by men) that was willing to risk their life for the sake of humanity deserved to die with dignity and her respect. Although the rest of the members of the Protestant Order would say that Integra is heartless, she's all but that. With passion for her work and the knowledge of what the consequences of her failure could be has made her competitive and strict. She understood that her orders not only affect the outcome of her enemies but also of her allies as well. One error could kill the people who have devoted their lives to her and despite how well she can take death around her, she does not take defeat well at all.
That's not to say that the death of her soldiers doesn't upset her, Integra has a strong work ethic and understood that death is always a casualty in war. She took the sorrow of the situation and merely pushed herself to do better so that their deaths not be in vain. She understood that even for a leader, to hold onto grief does no one any good. Her mind had to be cleared and a purpose has to be set in motion or else she cannot be the leader she wants to be. Despite how frustrating and difficult her job can be this mindset keeps her sane in a sense. Integra truly believes that if she doesn't fight for mankind, no one else will and she does believe herself capable of saving the world because she is knows she is willing to do everything for them, even if it means putting her own honor and life on the line.
Things became serious when Integra was twenty-two years old. A strange influx in vampires caught the interest of the Hellsing Organization. Further research into the matter shed that some new threat had started a terrorist movement involving the artificial creation of vampires through some unconventional means. Hellsing was known as the most elite vampire slayers, it was only a matter of time before this terrorist group attacked them. The first battle against these tyrants began in Integra's home when two members of the enemy group led a full on assault on her manor, while she was in session with the members of the protestant order. Their purpose was simple: kill every member including Integra herself and kill the vampire Alucard. The attack left the Hellsing Organization crippled, most if not all of the military personnel under her command had been killed, eaten, or turned into ghoul's. Thanks to her butler Walter and her two vampires Alucard and Seras Victoria, Integra along with every member of the order survived. Interrogation of the two culprits was useless as one was killed by Alucard and the other burst into flames before they could get him to speak..
This was a heavy blow to Integra. The loss was grand and the house of her family had been disrespected and almost destroyed. She assumed vampires wouldn't be stupid enough to break into her home and attack her head on but the move had been so aggressive, Integra had no choice but to fight back with her wounded pride. The elite of the elite had been taken down in their own territory, Integra took this as an act of war. Not only had this group attacked Hellsing and in so threatening the royal crown but they had done so on a very personal level to the Hellsing heiress. An attempt on her life meant that her enemies were well aware of Alucards strength and the power she held in controlling the monster. Little did they know Integra wasn't afraid of using the beast and setting it wild. She was angry and adamant about wanting to find the ones responsible for this. With all her men dead- that only prompted her to work quickly. She understood that the high mortality rate of her organization meant English-born soldiers of the military force might be detrimental to the success of her country, so instead she took an offer prompted by her butler that perhaps she should invest in mercenaries. Integra didn't hardly hesitate, she wasn't the type to hold back and she wasn't naïve enough to ignore the fact that you could put a price on loyalty.
Naturally, the attempt on her life and the movement of the terrorist also caught the attention of Hellsing's rivals: the Catholic Church, who offered some information. A Nazi group known as the Millennium Organization had resurfaced. Back in 1944 during the peak of World War II, Hitler had commanded this group to build a vampire army in order to change the tides of war. Fortunately for the world, their plans were foiled due to the Hellsing's involvement back then led by Integra's father (she was not born yet). Inheriting the Catholics problems; for Italy had once been allies with the Germans until they saw they pulled away, Integra took it upon herself to fight Millennium on a global scale. She learned that Millennium had fled to Brazil after the war and had stayed under the radar and Integra had every intention on returning the favor. If Millennium wasn't scared of attacking her on her territory, then neither was she. They learned that Millennium had taken a strong foothold on her country and their manipulation spread into the police forces and armed forces of the country. They had planned using the uttermost discretion for this mission but Millennium had anticipated a move from them and forced them into a tight spot. Integra had to choose whether they fell back or moved forward threatening to move their existence into a public spectrum. She chose to take the risk knowing that was inevitable then. She ordered Alucard to attack without discretion even if it meant the death of the innocent. Her reasons behind it were simple: there was no time to pick and point at the corrupt or those merely following orders. Her job was to save mankind and any threat to her cause was a threat to the world. She ordered Alucard to show the world that they would not fail: it was a wonderful display of strength.
She felt pleased with her victory. Integra then sought her orders from the Queen of England herself when Alucard returned. Their meeting involved the Catholics as well, and was interrupted by another member of Millennium who sent a foul message of war. The Queen gave her the green light to use no discretion against their enemies and Integra wasn't going to stay shy to that gracious offer. Not that she needed her approval since she had all ready blatantly done her own thing back in Brazil but here their enemies threatened to burn London to the ground. Without any hesitation, she sent Alucard to crash on a plane into a ship that bared a very dangerous member of the Millennium Organization in attempts to kill her. Rip Van Winkle was killed but unfortunately this had all been a decoy in order to separate Alucard from Integra. Millennium brought an entire army to England's shores and completely caught the country and Integra by surprise.
The Nazis thought that Integra was at her home, so Millennium began to send their members to find her. Unfortunately, they found was a house full of mercenaries and Seras Victoria, the other vampire under Integra's orders. London is attacked and the foot soldiers of the vampire army eventually run into Integra who is desperately trying to get back home. Walter sacrifices himself; or so it was assumed, in order for her to flee but even more Millennium appear and it's not until members of Iscariot themselves appear to save her. The Iscariot, or section VIII as they were more commonly known, were members of the catholic church with super-human abilities that the church used to fight the supernatural threats. They were engineered the way they were and amongst them, their leader Alexander Anderson was the biggest threat to Alucard. At this point, their involvement was simple: the situation had gotten out of hand in London and they were here to help stop them. Seeing that they were clearly on the same page as she, Integra took it upon herself to convince them to escort her to her home where she could better assess their next move and rejoin her other vampire. Unfortunately, this is also the time when the Catholics true intentions become clear. Under the orders of Enrico Maxwell, an entire army arrives on London with the intent to kill all Millennium members and exterminate any survivors in London. Disgusted by this power-hungry maniac, Father Anderson ordered the Iscariot to protect Integra at all costs. They are soon joined by Seras Victoria, who after her battle to defend the Hellsing Manor had become a full-fledged vampire, reported the state of affairs of the house. Integra decided that the best option now is to wait for Alucard. By then, she knew her country would be lost if she did not take extreme measures and right when Alucard finally arrived back in London after the trickery from Millennium, she gave him a clear order: "Announce your return".
Fearing that this was a bad omen, both Millennium and the Catholics began to attack Alucard in hopes to prevent whatever calamity Integra had set into motion. All attempts were in vain as Integra ordered the realease of the final bond that sealed Alucards power. His orders were to destroy their enemies and the bodies of all the souls he had eaten during his entire lifetime being a vampire came into being and attacked everything in sight. Integra stood proudly watching their enemies retreat and eventually even Maxwell fell to Alucard's powers being eaten and killed alive. Alucard returned to her side and a tender moment between she, Alucard and Seras happened amidst all the chaos around them. It proved her bond to her servants, and that they meant more to her than she could express.
It is here in the chaos of war that she is brought to Wonderland.
Master of Monsters
The Vampire Alucard was sealed in 1897 by Abraham Van Hellsing and after many years of research and partaking in the dark arts, he became a servant to the bloodline forced to follow orders without being able to bend or fold. Integra's relationship with the vampire is very different when compared to those that cam before her. Integra never feared him even during her first encounter with him in the basement. Confused at first, she easily slipped into the role of being his master and ordering him as she saw fit though it is assumed that by the nature of her never re-sealing him, she respected him.
There were moments when Integra had difficulty discerning whether Alucard was truly a monster or not. It's safe to say that considering how young she was, his influence on her is there. Not only does she not fear him but even in canon they seem to hold personal conversations. She worries about his safety even if he seems to be indestructible and express's concern when he is faced with hardships. They share a bond that connected the two mentally, and yet as two individuals they have grown to be rather close. She takes pride in her servant and she would do anything to prevent anything horrible from happening to him. The same can be said about Seras Victoria who although she was rather new to the group, Integra expressed her concern for her constantly even putting herself in jeopardy by trying to calm down Seras when she was lost herself to her madness.
